Dr. Kurland was born in Paris, on July 26, 1949. He graduated with honors at
St. Antoine University School of Medicine in Paris, subsequently specializing
in rheumatology. He worked for fifteen years in the Department of Rheumatology
of the Rothschild Foundation. At the same time Dr. Kurland specialized in
orthopedics, followed by further specialization in foot surgery. He graduated
in Medical Hydrology and Climatology, following in the footsteps of his father,
Dr. Leib Kurland. In summer he worked in a private clinic, in Evian-les-Bains
(Haute-Savoie, France), treating Holocaust survivors. He also studied
Neuraltherapy and Mesotherapy, two remarkable therapies against pain, and
became a leading practitioner in these fields.
Dr. Kurland's thesis for his medical graduation was entitled: "The thermal
properties of the Spa in Tiberias (Israel)".
His thesis for specialization in Medical Hydrology and Climatology was
entitled: "Treatment of Psoriasis at the Dead Sea (Israel)".
Immigrating to Israel in September, 1997, he worked for two years at Meir's
Hospital in Kfar Saba in the Spinal Care Unit of Dr. Gipstein, and was a pain consultant
in the Pain Department of Prof. Yudaikin. This was
followed by a position of pain
consultant at a medical center in
Tel-Aviv and Jerusalem for a period of two and a half years.
Dr. Kurland was one of the pioneers in diagnosing and treating Fibromyalgia in
Israel. He opened a clinic in Kfar Saba and is currently the only doctor in
Israel to be listed and recommended by the Fibromyalgia Treatment Center at
Santa Monica in California.
Outside of the medical field, Dr. Kurland is an accomplished pianist, a master
chess player, a former skier in international competitions and skiing teacher.
He has written two novels. Coming to Israel as a bachelor, he met Rita, an
expert in cosmetics, and they married in 2001. They are the proud parents of their son
Alon Leonard.
